When I was making my annual rounds with magazine editors in NYC during the week after 9/11, I actually had an assigning editor tell me to "cool out" for awhile. "America wants 'nice,'" he said. I argued, "Now, more than ever, journalists need to be cynical." The editor (who was about to drape his magazine cover with the American flag) promptly ended the meeting. That's when I realized that my days in traditional print media were numbered.
I recently opted out of a two-year contract with the storied William Morris Agency. My former agent, Joni Evans - who showed up at my hotel to sign me and my writing partner Andrew Breitbart when we launched our book tour in NYC - continually rejected my book proposals because she deemed them "too dark." Joni always complained, "Publishers will run from your work."
Publishers weren't the only ones running from my darkness.
Joni Evans freaked out when I handed her a thirty page proposal on an American icon who had been leading a double life as a serial rapist. When the proposal hit her desk, she phoned me, scolding, "Do you realize that he [the icon-rapist] has been a Morris client for 50 years?"
I had to laugh when I realized that a classic Hollywood "conflict of interest" would serve to protect, in fact, aid and abet a career rapist. I laughed because I knew that, one day, I would be able to expose the high-profile perp, and avenge his victims. In fact, I will do just that in (among other atrocities) a hat-trick of rape stories I have planned for these pages.
Crime and celebrity -- that is my currency; it's the fetid air that we breathe.
Is there really such a thing as being "too dark" for the celebrity-obsessed culture we are inhaling right now? I think not.
On the day Hollywood, Interrupted officially joined Festering Ass, I took a meeting in my manager Joel Gotler's office with the principals of a television production company called Super Delicious. Throughout the meeting, I kept laughing at inappropriate times because my career nexus had somehow amounted to "Super delicious festering ass." When I passed my manager's client, the "prince of darkness" James Ellroy on the way out of that meeting, I suddenly realized that all was well in my world. Welcome to it...

I was honestly pretty skeptical about first hearing of Festering Ass's newest writer beying named "Hollywood, Interrupted" thinking it might be a lame attempt to make fun of celebs with a slightly better technique then David "im done" Spades whining about lame "that was so 2 days ago" celeb gossip. But that all changed when i read the first paragraph of this post. After 9/11, when America just wanted "nice", myself included, you as a true journalist wanted to know more, dig deep, and expose some shit. Thats real right there. Then, to top it all off, you freakin ousted some scientology nonsense. I have been questioning scientology for awhile now (even before it was "cool" to trash scientology. My mom was forced to go to scientology events by her boss or she would be fired). I am really looking forward to your future articles and Im glad that you decided to join Festering Ass, instead of the pussies..i mean newspapers, that just spit out government propaganda and never ask the real questions.
