HOLLYWOOD, INTERRUPTED EXCLUSIVE
Freshly crowned $12 million poker king Jamie Gold is reportedly deeply indebted to background players...
![]() WSOP moneymaker Gold prepares to chop his stack | America's new poker poster boy Jamie Gold had railbirds and players alike scratching their heads and scoffing when he told ESPN that he didn't want the fame of being the latest WSOP champ. The black-clad endorsement-bedecked former Hollywood talent agent smacked disingenuous when he actually announced that he was willing dump his massive chip lead and settle for second place to avoid all the attention associated with the big win at the "big dance." |
Hollywood, Interrupted has learned that, going into the WSOP tournament, there were people behind Gold, and now they are waiting in the wings, hat in hand champing for the champ to pony up.
According to sources in the WPT (World Poker Tour) and the professional player community in Vegas, the back-story goes like this: When the splashy, online gambling web site Bodog.com agreed to sponsor Gold into the World Series, they pressed him to arrange for one of his famous friends to join their ball-cap wearing gang of camera hogs. Gold, who boasts about having repped everyone from Sopranos star James Gandolfini to actress Lisa Liu, reportedly came up dry in the celebrity wrangling department, and turned to a friend inside the WPT (World Poker Tour). | ![]() Crispin "Easy Money" Leyser |
![]() Matthew "The Bodog Shill" Lillard |
The friend, a young British chap named Crispin Leyser, who, with his wife Jules, tours with the WPT as a boot camp poker instructor, collared smarmy "Scream" star Matthew Lillard to fill the celebrity seat at the last minute, and - recognizing that his pal was failing to get his own 10k tournament buy-in together - the grateful Gold then offered Leyser half his winnings should he cash in the tournament. And cash he did. |
A high-level source at the WPT tells Hollywood, Interrupted that Gold has not paid anyone yet, but he is rushing to set up a quickie corporation to protect what's left of his winnings. And while it remains to be seen if he makes good on his nil-advised oral contract with the poker coach, it appears that the former ten-percenter is guilty of making one helluva bad business decision.
Says one poker pro, "In the gambling community, your word is gold." And, should the man of the same name as his word welsh on his promise, says the pro, "His name is dirt."

"On winning poker's largest ever tournament and its prestigious bracelet an elated Gold stated, "I won because of the blueberries." Gold was eluding to the fact that he had been seen with a bowl of blueberries on everyday he played. He had eaten blueberries before his first day of play and didn't want to jinx himself by changing anything. So blueberries it was, all the way to the championship."

He is an idiot...50%...for what??...!!!

That part about your word being golden in the gambling community is really funny. That's what Slim used to say on the Tonite Show, even though everybody knew you couldn't trust anything that con man said.

With all of the information coming out now about Gold's "client list" being as phony as his "I don't need the money" statement, it is no surprise that he contemplated "dumping" chips to finish second place and not gain the notoriety that comes with being the WSOP Main Event Champion.
Many sources have now confirmed that Jamie was NEVER the agent for any of the clients that he listed in the ESPN article, and his resume if it were revealed shows that he actually only represented two people PERSONALLY, those two being the aforementioned Johnny Chan and The loveable porn star Ron Jeremy. This guy bluffed his way to the win, and now can't hide from all of the "bluffs" he created in the media. I guess we'll call him the ambassador for LIARS POKER from here on out.

Although I am no fan of Jamie Gold I find it interesting that the scrutiny the new champs are going through is extreme in comparison to the champs of the "Pre Poker Craze" whom were not all that innocent.

So you guys are telling me that there is a dishonest and sleazy HOLLYWOOD AGENT out there? I just cannot picture that.
Posted by: ScottMc at August 17, 2006 10:09 AM
This guy makes a mockery of the game, and the history behind the championship.
Stu Ungar has to be rolling in his grave...
Posted by: RaiseandFold.com at August 17, 2006 09:07 PM
Well it will be interesting to see if bluffing is all he does. I have met Crispen an Jules personally. They are great people and give an insight into the game that goes beyond thier years.
While watching the final table on pay per view I was amazed at some of the startegies that gold used... reminded me of the first wpt boot camp I attended. He also employed several questionable plays that were by anyones guess to appear ameturish in nature. So I believe that between Johnny's coaching and tidbits from Crispen, with alot of luck thrown in, is the true reason for Gold's success.

Stu Ungar was a coke snorting, prostitute banging gambler. Let's not get too pretentious about GAMBLING here guys.

Are you people kidding me? Who cares about any of these things. The bottom line is that he won the largest tournament in the history of poker. No matter what anyone has to say about him, you can't take that away from him. Over 8,700 entries and the largest payout in history. How many people can make that claim?
Posted by: gus1 at August 19, 2006 10:09 PM
what is BuzzNation? I saw Jamie Gold is president of production there, is that a real company?
Posted by: anonymous at August 21, 2006 05:12 PM
The entire Sigma Nu community stands behind our beloved brother. What he does off the poker table is his business. What he did on the table was, well nothing short of spectacular.

Ive never met a finer class of individuals than Jules and Crispin Leyser, having played poker and worked with them. Say what u want about Jamie Gold, I dont know him. What I do know is that Crispin is as sincere and mellow as they come and worth his word 1000% May this only be a lesson to future welchers who try to pull one past an honest man.

jeez, there's a lot of jealous people out there! i agree with the gus1. he won, and however he did it good luck to him and the people who helped him get there. and if anyone says a bad word about jules and crispin i'll 'ave 'em.

I think this guy got what he deserved...
Making such a convoluted deal in the first place; x% to this guy, x% to bodog, x% to Chan--it's no wonder god blessed him with the luck to win, just so that he could face all this trouble and hardship that he brought upon himself...
I haven't watched the final table yet, but, already, I really don't like this guy at all...
I mean hell, I read somewhere that he said he woulda preferred second place just to avoid the fame--are you serious!!
That's not a poker player; he's not a poker player, and this whole situation just goes to show you what a farce the WSOP has turned into since this massive and extreme comericalization.
Posted by: anonymous at August 23, 2006 03:11 AM
Most poker players are scum. That's why we like them.
Let's not kid anybody. I am sure half or more of the famous players are in the hole to people, and are living a phony public life.

I just want to say ive known jamie gold for over 13 years and while i have no knowledge or insight regarding promises made before his big win, i can most certainly vouch for the fact that he did represent/ handle celebrities such as felicity huffman, james gandolfini, jimmy fallon and other name actors when he was an agent/ manager. That is 100 percent truth, I was there, I remember.. So, lets not act like he's been bluffing throughout his whole career because it is quite inaccurate to assume so.
Posted by: Joey at August 25, 2006 10:03 AM
Jamie Gold absolutely did at one time represent the actors he claims. I am an industry colleague of his and can attest to the fact that this is true.
Posted by: lafonda at August 25, 2006 10:18 AM
I believe a person's word is their bond so let the Judge handle division of funds hopefully Crispin will get his MONEY!- and Jamie Gold will use his share to do good things maybe for some charity.
I got ur back Alex hollaback!

Jamie spent many days and hours above and beyond the call of managing his clients such as Gandolfini, Jimmy Fallon, Donny Wahlberg, Felicity Huffman etc... I've seen it with my own eyes and collaborated with them on projects together.
Jamie's got a great big heart.
Posted by: jilliejill at August 28, 2006 01:21 PM
From what I could tell watching the main event on ESPN, Jamie seemed courteous, generous and a gentleman regarding his play.
I'm just glad we didn't have to hear "Aussie, aussie, aussie!!" again.
I wouldn't mind having 12 million dollars worth of problems. Somehow I think it would all work out...and if it didn't there are plenty of small polynesian islands I could spend the rest of my days.Congrats to Gold!
Posted by: cinckid at September 20, 2006 08:37 AM
jamie is a friend of mine and managed some big players in the biz including donnie walberg...he has a big heart.
Posted by: erik at September 21, 2006 04:05 PM
I might be having a brain fart or a time lapse but isn't Jamie Gold a child actor from some old sitcom? It seems I heard that somewhere or maybe it was just a rumor. But he looks a lot like some guy from Family Ties.

In order for a contract, verbal or written to be binding, each must give the other something in return of fair value.
Saying to the waitress, I will give you half my winnings if I win may be chivalrous, but it isn't binding, whether it is recorded or not. That is the law.
While I think Jamie's comments were suspect, I don't think anyone would think it fair to give a six million dollar payout to someone for getting two persons to wear a bodog logo. Just as Jamie's detractors are suggesting he is finally the greedy one, I think we should also be pointing fingers in the direction of his supposed buddy, who is accusing him of the six million dollar debacle.
Lastly, Mr. Chan would have more of a hold on the money, due to a contract of 10% wherein he not only mentored and coached, but also was at the event giving him advice throughout, as shown by the many times Jamie went to his side and asked "what do I do now?"
Posted by: Jacob at September 26, 2006 12:51 AM
I wasn't there. I did not participate. I just watched on TV. I just wnat to know how to get Johnny Chann to coach me through such a field to a win of over $12 million. Seems enough for all concerned.

Absolutley Dispicable! Gives Poker a bad name - as if gambling could get any worse!
Posted by: Brian at October 2, 2006 12:15 AM
honestly it's none of our business. No-one here knows anything other then what the press is telling them. And we all know you can't believe what the press tells you is 100% true anyways. So stop bashing someone you know nothing about.
Posted by: Anonymous at October 19, 2006 08:50 AM
I THINK THIS GUY IS A CREEP HE SHOULD STICK TO THE AGREEMENT AND PAY THE 50% AS HE WOULD NOT HAVE HAD THE SEAT UNLESS THE OTHER GUY GAVE IT TO HIM THROW HIM DOWN A MINE SHAFT WITH A BAG OF LIME BEHIND HIM A RAT HE IS....
Posted by: DEANNE at November 2, 2006 09:49 PM
The guy may have managed, or played a part in managing those celebs. I don't really care.
He may or may not have made promises of a percentage of his winnings in exchange for services rendered. I don't really care about that either.
The fact is, he outwitted, outplayed, and outlasted (with apologies to survivor) the largest field in poker history, and won.
Let the courts handle the payouts, and honestly who cares about the representation. I'm sure he's not the only one in hollywood who may have padded their resume.
I for one salute him, and hope that the share of his winnings he gets to keep helps his dad be more comfortable. Jamie Gold sure seemed like he obviously loves his dad very much.

Something about Jamie Gold just pisses me off.
Can't put my finger on it...maybe it is his whiney little gay voice and constant chatter.Seems he stretches the truth, and doesn't keep his word. Maybe it is that too. Can't fault his luck. As for his skill...only time will tell.
I personally will have nothing to do with Bodog
simply because he is part of it.
Posted by: Rex at November 20, 2006 07:11 PM
Smell it, I won! Have a nice life flipping burgers losers. Jealous, pathetic, sad.

"Most poker players are scum. That's why we like them."
You obviously don't know a whole lot of poker players then, because you couldn't be more wrong.
Posted by: Anonymous at November 29, 2006 03:35 PM
Am I the only one that thinks gold seems like he could be a closet pedophile or something along those lines? I don't know what it is about the guy, but he just doesn't sit right with me...
Posted by: Anonymous at November 29, 2006 03:36 PM
I think Gold did talk way too much. I bet he wouldn't have liked it if I made comments about human furnaces or big noses or some shit like that? No, he did it the nasty little way; showing cards and taunting and telling people all sorts of shit. I'm a regular game, he'd get his ass beat down, but in a casino he can get really mouthy. I think he's a little bitch and hope Cunningham (the quiet one) beats his ass while Nagrano laughs and Jesus stares at him. What a fucking bum.
