WARNING: 21 EXTREMELY GRAPHIC PHOTOS OF THE REAL CONSEQUENCES OF A SUICIDE BOMBING TO FOLLOW:

Holy crap. I read your description of it, and I had an abstract concept of what happened, but that's just fucking insane.

This is even worse than we all would have thought - Amazing pictures though. It really shows the casualties of war and religious zealots!

Honestly, they are gruesome but not shocking. In my experience as an EMT I've seen much worse. What do you expect from a suicide attack? It's not going to be pretty. Nevertheless, this is fearless journalism that should be commended.

I am forever grateful for what our troops are doing for us in Iraq and elsewhere, but the idea that war is ever something that people want gets under my skin. Necessary? Of course. Desirable? Never. These images should be in wide circulation. People need to see what total disregard for human life looks like.

You have to be nuts to WANT war or LIKE war. But the men and women who keep their chins up and head INTO it instead of running away from something that gruesom have incredible characters. Doing what needs to be done requires a lot of fortitude and I admire them.

It's not right that we aren't permitted to see the realities of this war. No proper opinion can be formed without accurate information. My opinion is changing.
These pictures make me feel sick. It's not so much the blood and visible insides that turn my stomach, it's the disregard for the lives of those people waiting in line. I can't imagine the tunnel vision with which that bomber viewed the world. I fear that many americans also have tunnel vision, including myself. Information like this shocks me into a wider view. Thanks for helping me grow into a wiser person, even if it is painful.

Congrats american now you see what we saw/see now deal with it for a year and then be told that things are getting better, but you still have to keep going back for a year at a time

Ok well just remember (or perhaps do a little homework) MOSSAD funded network operation^- this slaughter is all part of what the USA has brought to the Iraqi people. DEATH, DESTRUCTION AND DESTABILIZATION IS THE GOAL. Hey here is a thought how about showing us photos of all the Iraqi women and children US troops have slaughtered? The home invasions in the middle of the night, or the raping and pillaging by US troops or how about the 100,000 innocent everyday Iraqi people the US has killed since 2003? Saddam couldnt have done a better job himself. And you wonder why there are "insurgents?" I thought this is about getting the truth out there? This presentation is propaganda at its utmost.

Rob,
I am immediately compelled to call you a retard. However, I understand that it may actually offend retarded people, as well as their families, to associate you with them. Not because you are more handicapped than they are, but that you have the characteristics of a healthy human being and choose to waste it away on ignorance. So, in the interest of the mentally handicapped, I will call you just plain ignorant.
I do not know where to begin with you. Fist off, I will assume that you never stepped foot into Iraq, and that you have based your opinions off of third and fourth hand knowledge. I will assume that you are not familiar with middle eastern history and politics. I will also assume that you have never served in the military. I will also say that you are quite impressionable and have a hard time thinking for yourself. This all amounts to the simple fact that you do not know what the hell you are talking about.
I am not too sure if the US brought all this horror to the Iraqi people. Do some research and you will quickly, and accurately conclude that more people died from torture and execution at the hands of Saddam, than the civilian casualties produced from the war. I can tell you that I have personally stood and watched women and families digging out a mass grave site to retrieve the bodies of their loved ones. Over 640 bodies. Killed by Saddam. We had to guard them while they dug because they were being attacked by other Iraqis. But alas, somehow this was our fault.
Just how many women and children have we “slaughtered? Let us see some facts. Give us your conspiracy theory. The home invasions in the middle of the night? Yes, we did night raids, yes it inconvenienced people. We also captured 94 confirmed insurgents, who not only attacked Americans, but terrorized Iraqis as well. There is an extensive legal procedure that we have to follow. We still have to testify via teleconference from US to Bagdhad. Without evidence, statements, and photos, an arrest is useless. So there are not random arrests. The Iraqi judicial system, believe or not, has the final detention authority. I have personally viewed the execution videos of over 30 Iraqi citizens from the city of Ramadi. They were all Iraqis, and they were all executed, mostly by beheading, by fellow Iraqis. Not Americans. It is a shame that my actions possessed Iraqis to kill Iraqis. Amazing.
Raping and pillaging. Come on now. You are really reaching. There is no rape over there. Not even close. We are trained to not even look at women, not to speak to them, not to go anywhere near them. We are trained to treat women just like Iraqi men do, as to not disrupt there fragile culture. We treat them like second class human beings. Subhuman even. There is no raping. There is no pillaging. There is nothing to pillage. It is a wasteland. There is not even the opportunity for this to happen. The leadership wouldn’t allow it. Plus, if the insurgents have video of US service members being killed, than wouldn’t they have some kind of proof of rape and pillaging? Maybe pictures of US boys robbing a store?? Or testimony of a woman who was rapped? That sounds like something the insurgents would publish if they had it. Think of the global backlash! Hell our own media published Abu Gharib pictures and stories. Newsweek published the Koran going in the toilet. Don’t you think this would have gotten out by now? But of course, only you, Rob, has privileged information like that.
Do you know that Ramadi was a hostile city even during the time of Saddam? Did you know that the Al Anbar government center was overrun? Do you know that Saddam had to pay of Sheiks for temporary peace. Saddam seldom traveled there for fear of his own safety. Do you know that Ramadi was always considered a haven for criminals and outlaws?
Do we really slaughter 100,000 people a day????? If that was the case than I wouldn’t have had two go their twice. With a population around 26 million, it would take roughly 260 days and there will be no Iraqis left. The war has lasted over 1,000 days. By your estimates we have killed 100,000,000. The war would be long over and a lot of American mothers would not have to cry themselves to sleep. Show us your research and evidence Rob. Please. Show us how smart you really are. More civilians have died from insurgents and interfaith battles than the unfortunate and accidental deaths at the hands of the Americans. Suicide bombings and Shia on Sunni violence casts a huge shadow on American collateral damage.
This is not propaganda. Look up the definition. This is reality. This is a cold, hard, simple fact. So bold and truthful that you are too afraid to see it for what it really is. Afraid that your worse dreams have already come true. They have.
Time to wake up.

Lt. IG,
I am not neccessarily agreeing with Rob and he certainly probably went a little overboard with his accusations. You really need to check your facts/reading skills though. Rob didn't say 100,000 people die everyday, he said 100,000 everyday people died. This is a widely accepted statistic but even the low statistic of 30,000 Iraqi civilian casualties (given by George W. Bush) is pretty high. This is not even taking into account the WHO estimates of 500,000 to 1,000,000+ civilian deaths directly attributable to US backed and UN imposed sanctions. Also, I am not denying that Saddam Hussein was a war criminal but it should definately be noted that many of his strong armed tactics were used against the same Islamist fundamentalist groups we are fighting today (they opposed his secular government). Anyways, those are truly terrifying and awful pictures and it is definately important for the American public to see them...keep up the good work and stay safe

You are a gun-toting redneck jackass.
Posted by: Anonymous at May 4, 2006 12:00 PM
A gun toting redneck jackass I am. From North Jersey, and son of an immigrant father.
Over the last 12 years I have conducted operations in 7 countries, with 6 of them third world countries. Violence and oppression. The plague of ignorance. I have seen the worst of human nature. I base my thoughts on real world experience, not media distortions and liberal hysteria. I have seen it with my own eyes, just like Pat, rather than from the television, print, and internet resources. I am sorry that you have to live your life based on what someone else decides to tell you. You live off of other peoples’ opinions. I apologize that you will never know the things you wished you did, that is unless you have the fortitude to experience it for yourself. As far at the 100,000 people dying goes. Roger, my mistake. I will accept the 30,000 as a relatively accurate number of how many civilians died over the past 3 years. This number accounts for US caused deaths as well as Iraq on Iraq violence. Although the Iraqi government cannot produce accurate death counts, by nature and event, it is difficult to say. You can combine all the news articles and estimates and conclude that more than half of the 30,000 Iraqis died at the hands of their fellow “muslim. The US has not killed 30,000 Iraqis. Compiling different resources, you can conclude that the US may be responsible for less than 10,000 deaths, with over half that number occurring during the invasion. So, during the insurgency, the US may be responsible for less than 5,000 civilian deaths. Make note that many insurgent deaths may have been recorded as civilian deaths, since they are un-uniformed and mostly died during air strikes. The last year, insurgent violence has been extremely deadly for civilians. Also, I wonder if any of you have ever seen an “everyday Iraqi. The WHO has historically produced unsubstantiated numbers on many accounts. Although it is a noble institution, they have no way of accurately producing and verifying their claims. They often accept random accounts from non-validated sources or shoddy, third world government official. Just look at the numbers you produced. Plus or minus 500,000. That is a big number to be off. Unfortunately, we will never really know. I can say, that in Ramadi, I personally witnessed a dozen civilian deaths from IEDs and mortar attacks. I have seen Marines run across fire swept battlegrounds in order to retrieve a wounded civilian. Saved an Iraqi, who in reality, hates his guts but does not even know why. Countless times. I have seen Marines lay down their weapons and rush across a playground when insurgents fired at us from across the playground. It was full of children at the time. No Marine fired a single shot.
I wish you could see it for yourself. The closest you will ever come will be Pat’s film. Until then, take some time to reflect on your life and what you think you may know, versus what you have actually experienced for yourself. You may surprise yourself. Or, get off your ass and see it for yourself. If you dare to seek the truth.

To the anonymous poster who wrote about Iraqi deaths resulting from sanctions: This is an interesting point. Keep in mind that the only realistic alternative to the U.S. invasion of Iraq was the continuation of these sanctions. If the WHO numbers are correct, then this course would have resulted in far more civilian deaths than the war has caused, whichever estimate of war casualties you accept. So -- the war has actually saved civilian lives.

Who elected America the doctor of the earth? The premise of the war was revealed to be absurdly fabricated, therefore rendering any argument about helping iraqis obsolete. George Bush is an egomaniac. He is the real globla threat, with whimsical wars, and self created enemies. Nobody cares for America's sanctimonious bullshit. Everyone can see through that crap. What country is next on America's naughty book?

Reading Anonymous's comment is like hearing George Clooney lecture his concern for the those suffering in the Sudan. Hollow, meaningless, narcissistic, self-serving feel-good nothingness.

I've read all your posts..but this one...wow...the stream of consciousness was ...mindblowing..and evocative.

First Sgt. Joseph Breze of the Third Battalion of the Seventh Marines."Liberals must begin to understand that the removal of their oppresors, often necessarily by violence, is the only hope for the protection of the world's future. And cutting and running because the work is tough, without regard for the consequences, is just another example of the left's slide into facile intellectual inferiority and rot"
