Yeah, Smith’s mugshot is now floating around — the amateurs over at TMZ (we won’t link to that site for ethical reasons) have already posted a bad photo-copy of his mug, but the man who first identified Harold Martin Smith as Beverly Hills’ Finest’s “person of interest” in the Ronni Chasen murder investigation was none other than this web site’s in-house private dick, Dan “Danno” Hanks of Backstreet Investigations.

Once Danno discovered that Smith had done multiple prison stretches for robbery in Jackson County, Oregon, he phoned a local paper up there asking them what they had heard about the Ronni Chasen murder. The newspaper editor didn’t know what Danno was talking about it, but, enlightened, he ran out and got the best mug shot available to thank Danno for helping him make some local news of his own.

There is a Beverly Hills connection between dead suspect Smith and Beverly Hills though. According to the criminal index we pulled, he was charged with a number of Bev Hills burglaries in the 90s, and was once caught pulling a gun on someone. That makes it easier to blame the Chasen murder on the dead guy – but this case is far from closed.
